It’s beginning to look a lot like the March 2016 flood. Everyone should pay close attention to their boat houses, boat slips and everything they have in their boat house which can float away. All boats located in a boathouse need to be lifted as high as possible via an electric or manual operated boat lift. We along with all of our immediate neighbors have either removed our boats from our boathouses via putting boats on boat trailers and putting them on higher ground or lifting our boats high as possible in our boat houses. All lake houses located on the same level as the lake need to prepare for possible/probable rising/flood waters entering into homes. I am unaware of any sandbag locations in Farmerville or Downsville. Tainter Gates were finally opened but I have to wonder why they were not opened sooner. Had the Tainter Gates been opened sooner in March 2016 some flooding of properties, homes and boat houses could have sustained less damage and possibly been avoided. There is a Crappie Tournament this weekend, 2/25 - 2/26, on Lake D’Arbonne and I am hoping the partipants will gently cruise through the water in order to avoid sending rippling wakes of water onto the properties located directly on the banks of the lake which can cause additional property (earth/ground) damage as well as damage to boat houses, private residential homes and fishing camp buildings. Everybody good luck and stay safe!
