I agree.  Just posting a link is about all Shorty does.  And I RARELY bother to open one of them.  In this case there is no need.  High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) has been around for decades and fotunately to this point it hasn't been used.  The problem is that it is the ultimate non-discriminator, and using it in anger would send thousands or even millions of people to their eventual grave.  If the Chinese were to deploy a HEMP shot, they, being sheltered by the earth itself - in fact most if not all of Asia - would come out relatively unscathed.  The rest of us would be without anything electric or electronic because the pulse woud literally fry it all.  No automobiles, airplanes. computers, hospitals, internet, and so on, except for the few who prepred by putting some stuff into a Faraday Cage before the pulse hit.  A Faraday cage can be as simple as wrapping something tightly in aluminum foil...but very quickly the size limitations of such a method would limit a person to small electronics.  You could put a generator in one, although it would be very difficult to properly seal it, given the size and weight of the generator itself.  I could go on and on but won't.  The simple fact is that, even if Shorty is right, there is little we as a society are willing to do to prepare for such a calamity, and if it happens, the great majority of us will likely die a slow and painful death, of starvation, untreated illness, or exposure to the elements.  Not a pretty thought but the capability is there.

On the other hand, a nation like China knows that we know all about HEMP and I am sure we have taken measures to ensure if they were to resort to such a measure, we would respond in kind and the only survivors might be those in the jungles who live now with no electricity...and maybe the Amish?  The North Koreans and Iranians might be another story, although they are not dumb and know a HEMP first strike would mean retaliation and sure devastation to their societies as well.
