Lakemartin residents with teenage children pay attention. The marine police stay way more busy pouring out beer obtained from your teenager riding around in your ski-boat or pontoon boat than they do inspecting powerboat owners safety equipment, safe operation and credentials. Kinda like pontoon boat owners pulling out orange lifevest from under the seat to show the officer they have them, but they are still in the clear plastic bag. (How funny) Trust me, when you are at home, they are at the rock drinking, I see it every weekend. Most just don't tell you about it when they get home. From what I see, those with hi-dollar powerboats keep registration current, safety gear, lifevest, etc in lawful and perfect condition and remain alert and sober in boat operation conditions. Most powerboat owners can't even get insurance if they have even a small traffic violation. Most powerboat owners have the latest, state of the art steering sytems, sound/muffler devices, fire protection systems along with respect to the boating public (they can't afford not to). Powerboat owners and operators are not a problem in my opinion, but I am sure there are those that differ. What if lake residents/or the majority propossed a bill that said, "any boat that could not travel over 40mph was a nuiceance and hazzard on the water", much like the "minimum speedlimit" sign on the interstate? I wonder how that makes the minimum wage guy that can only afford an old car to get to work and feed his family feel! Now that would be a good one would'nt it? And while we're at it, lets clean up all that air that is getting nasty from those smoking outdated outboard engines on the bass boats/pontoon boats that has'nt been serviced in the last 10 years. I think it smells bad!
