Does anyone have any suggestions for internet connections on the Alex City/Windermere side of the lake. We are currently using our cable company, Com Link, and the cable is fine, but the internet doesn't work 85% of the time. The cable company keeps telling me it's either my computer (no problems in B'ham) or -get this- that every website I go to is having technical difficulties. Uh huh. Thanks and I hope everyone got to enjoy the beautiful fall days at the lake this weekend.

I'm on Charter and the only time I have problems is when we have power outages or they are working on the cable system. I've never had much luck with any of the dial-ups except Earthlink and then some company bought them out and there went the neighborhood. Take your computer to someone on a different service and see how it does. If it is new or updated you shouldn't have any problems. Report them to the public service commission.

bug, the next time you lose the connection do this
Test Connections by Using Tracert.exe
Tracert.exe is a route-tracing utility that you can use to determine the network path to a destination. To determine the path that a packet takes on the network and where that path may be ending: 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
2. At the command prompt, type tracert IP address of the remote network host, and then press ENTER. Example tracert yahoo.com.
3. Examine the results to determine the length of time that the packet took to reach each network segment and the point at which the connection may stop working.
You can test several websites to make sure that no bottlenecks .I just used yahoo but try more and see what the results are. That will tell you if you have internet connection if you get results. They should look like this

Thanks everybody-- we'll try your suggestion, Cobra. Unfortunately, Charter won't come out to our neck of the woods and we have way too many trees for satellite. I've heard of one guy trying Vonage and then running internet on that. I have to get my "forum fix" while I'm at the lake-- got to keep up with all the squabbles!... haha. Have a great lake day!

Don't know where you live on the lake, but I've seen equipment putting in underground cable on Hwy 34 headed for the Pleasure Point area. Truck had something about fiber optic on the door, so I assume the phone company (or maybe cable company) is putting down new fiber lines which will enhance their ability to offer high speed to the whole Point area. Assumption on my part!

cable also going in along Centerport Road as of about three weeks ago... but we also have Charter cable access (if it's within 100' of your house, they will hook you up) in that area.

I use a Verizon Wireless card, while not blazing fast it does work.

Plus when traveling across the country (even on the car) I always have an internet connection as long as I have a wireless signal.
