Hello,
I used to live in SE Wisconsin and the Lake I moved off of was crowded in 1975. These cottages now sell for voer $700,000 as tearn-downs.

When I say crowded, I mean you could not water ski safely. You could not throw a bobber off your dock without someone running over it. If I went trolling and someone ran over my line, I was the bad guy. Hey, my lure might have hurt someone's baby who was water sking behind their boat. It was not the fault of the boat operator for going a few feet behind my boat.

Here is a photo of Lake Martin from the air. I usually go out on weekdays and I think the traffic is light.

I am sure the trafic on Lake Martin is not as light as "once apon a time", but every thing is relative.

Hey MotorMan, I think what you posted is so true. I have seen the property values of in the Minnesota and Wisconsin (the Dells) areas and know what you are saying is oh so true. Some folks just don't realize how reasonable the prices are for water front property on Lake Martin. We also have a nicer Lake. Lake Martin is much larger than your normal Lake therefore more diversity. Certain sections are significanly less congested by population and boat traffic than others. Fortunately or unfortunately those same areas are further from the hot entertainment and eating spots. A little something for everyone. Thanks for that great view. Are you a pilot?

I pulled the photo from a web site. Actually, I think it is somewhere on this site, somewhere, but I don't know where anymore. I will give a photo credit to LakeMartin.com
Wisconsin Lake values start at Lake Geneva. It is close to Chicago.

I will be heading through that area this weekend. Stay in Elkhart, IN on Saturday night and then on through Chicago, Wisconsin and into MN on Sunday. Some of that stretch through Wisconsin on I-90 & 94 is more desolate than anything in Alabama, but I would rather be driving South to the Lake. Is Wisconsin your home territory or just past/present stomping grounds?

I have a couple of those nice Lake Martin pictures as screen savers. Think they were downloaded off www.lakemartin.com, but I don't see that available any longer. Got a new lap top I would like the Lake as a screen saver. Anyone know a source?

I was born in Milwaukee. I spent a lot of years in nearby Waukesha County. From 1990 to 1999 I lived in Mercer so my wife, Luanne, could enjoy her dog sledding. We had six months, ten days of snow on the ground in 1991. We tried Bradenton, FL for five years, but it doubled in population, so we got fed up with the crowds and here we are in Alabama. Wisconsin has a fishing tradition and even as a kid, you could count 100 fishing boats near the Winneconne bridge.

Here is a photo of a day's catch by a dozen or so anglers from a lake that needed to have some smaller crappies removed. We cleaned fish for a long time.
