State Sen Dial has introduced a bill in the Alabama Legislature to exclude all boat over 30'6" or > 500 HP from all landlocked lakes in Alabama (including Lake Martin). The bill was read for the second time today and appears to be on a fast track.

Its called Senate Bill 487. Nothing is said in the proposed law about currently exisitng boats on the lake that would immediately be in violation.

How many Lake Martin boats do you think this would affect? 30'6" is looong, and 500 HP is powerful! I know we have some big, fast boats (and some big, not so fast, just too darned big boats) that (in my opinion) have no business being on a lake like ours, but are they really THAT big?

Wonder how they will determine HP? WP going to have a dyno on board???
Maybe they will just worry about factory published specs.
Cat, Does your boat or any of your associates pack that much HP? I don't think any of the boats on your web site are over 30' 6".

There are many cabin cruisers docked at various marinas that are > 30'. Most wetslips are 40' and very few boats extend beyond that. I only know of a few twin engine boats that have a total of 500HP or more. If there are more, I wish they'd come to my dock for fuel!
Most of those large cruisers on the lake do very little cruising and are just an inexpensive way for a family to have a presence on the lake. For $25k to $50k in a used cruiser, you can get sleeping for 4, bath, kitchen and a boat, too. No grass to cut, taxes to pay - not bad.

A google search revealed an Alabama Law 487 was passed in 2003 in regards to transportation. It does not mention boats. This maybe something totally different and perhaps a proposal numbering system vs. a law number. I have emailed Senator Dial and requested confirmation of this and for a copy of the poposed law. Senator Dial's web site message link appears inactive, but did attempt to infect my system with a trojan horse virus. It did contain an email for Senator Dial that I used for my request. Kind of funny.
Maybe someone else wil have better luck or worse luck if they do not have a good virus protection.

Well, mine has 1,000 hp, and measures 30'. I think this is crap. Anchorbaydon has many crusiers docked at his facility that will not work. We'll see what happens. Most of my customers have 1,000hp +. I think I need to write some letters.
