How do you folks stand on this hot button?
Gallup Poll says 58% of Americans favor legalization and Michigan, Colorado and Maine (D.C. too) agree. More states to follow according to the pro-pot groups. And, the Federal Guvment is taking a pass on blocking it.

The reason the feds are taking a pass is because there are so many of omama's welfare warriors who are smoking it.  The next conflict will be with welfare warriors smoking a joint while protecting the U. S. interests.

definitely should be legalized, no rational reason to make criminals out of people for doing something that is far less harmful than alcohol.

There has never been a single incident of a marijuana overdose, nor death related to over consumption of THC... compare this to alcohol use and the law looks ridiculous.

Well spoken, in a blind defense of the welfare warriors replacing the military and defending the laws of the land.

No problem with me, but Alabama makes to much money in fines and court cost for it to happen here.

I always find it amusing that people defend the legalization/decriminalization of pot based on it not being as bad as alcohol. I for one see no reason to make things worse simply because it's already bad with legal alcohol. Whatever happened to protecting our children from harm? But more to the point, those that think pot is harmless are clueless. There are any number of studies that document the significant negative impact pot has on cognitive function and the long term impact on mental health. And as widget put it, pot is in deed a gateway drug. Always has been and always will. I know of no friend or family member that has had serious drug issues that did not start with pot. So I am opposed to legalizing pot because two wrongs don't even remotely make a right and you would think that those that acknowledge the damage alcohol can cause would not want to legalize pot. And I would also point out that there are millions of people that are social drinkers that do not consume alcohol to get wasted. With pot there is one goal and one goal alone, to get stoned. And when the appeal of that buzz wears off many, not all, will transition to harder drugs like cocaine, meth, heroin, etc. Soon one of the pot proponents will also bring up the violence associated with drugs, prohibition, etc. Just look at the experience of Amsterdam and you will see the connection with all sorts of crime and the drug culture. And do you think if they legalize pot all these violent drug lords will hang up the Fast and Furious guns and go legit? LOL! They will simply focus on other drugs or like we are seeing in Colorado and Washington they will try to take over the legal market. And as we are already seeing, if it moves the govt will tax the heck out of it which will create a market for cheaper black market pot. This will solve nothing and will only further degrade our society.

Your life experiences are different than most of us on the forum, and thus I lend credence to your opinion on matters like this. Maybe it is OK to legalize it, but I wonder if there is a "breathalizer" that would determine whether a pot smoker exceeds the (yet to be determined) legal limit to drive? If there is I am willing to be educated, but there are far too many "Bubbas" around here who might get cranked up on both Bud Light AND his or her favorite rendition of cannabis. I also wonder if we might put ourselves on a slippery slope towards legalization of other "recreational" drugs. Willing to liste(read) counterpoints. Nasreddin Hodja
