newsflash to Gov. Bentley--if you only have $10,000.00 in your checking account--you can't write a check for $15,000.00; but don't think you are alone in not understanding this basic principle of business--the Feds haven't cought on to this either !

When has he said anything that would lead you to believe that he doesn't understand this. I think that's why he is practically begging the legislators to find new revenue.

Agree...but his answer is a bunch of new taxes...has an "R" after his name but acts like one who has a "D" after their name. Seems to me the Alabama budget restriction to only spend what comes in was done for a purpose, and that Bentley didn't take that class in med school.

Bentley hasn't convinced me he has cut. Expenses enough--I still know state non emergency employees who live 3-4 miles from work who have state cars & make $200k +--really !!sell the cars

I thought it was disingenuous of Bently to run a few months ago on how much better everything in the state is, due to his leadership; and then immediately after, announce that the state is in a financial crisis.  Was he serious out of touch and didn't know there was a financial crisis looming or did he lie to get re-elected?

One solution to the financial crisis is to get more jobs and revenue into the state.  I don't think he has done nearly the job that Riley did on that front.  And now they are promoting a lottery for education.  I've seen this done before and it isn't long before the money gets diverted for everything other than education.  (Not to mention that it seems to attract those who already don't have enough money, to play in some kind of deserperation thinking that they are going to win big).

I don't know what the solution is, because if I did, I would run for office.  But I suspect if they could cut back on some of the corruption and stop allowing officials to line their pockets with money for votes, they would find a lot more revenue.

As much as I hate to say it, according to a little birdie the corruption of the current Republican crowd on Goat Hill (Alabama State House) makes the preceding Democrat group look like cub scouts.  That is what scares me about the movement to curtail Federal spending and return the services...and tax dollars...to the states.

Don't let this dampen your enthusiasm for federalism.  If the state is corrupt and/or incompetent you at least have the option to move to another better run state. Not so with the federal government where you have nowhere to run unless you want to renounce your citizenship.  And it is much easier to turn the ship of state government in the right direction than it is to turn the federal government massive aircraft carrier.  And more importantly, a state government cannot print money the way the federal government can.  So if they take on a bunch of debt to cover their profligacy they will eventually have to pay the bill.  The feds just print more money.

Following your line of thought, maybe less government all the way around is the way to go.  Let the counties deal with it.

Frankly, the counties are much more in tune with and responsive to taxpayer's concerns and needs than either state or federal government.  Disance breeds cotempt....the farther from the voters the less concern for them.

If you are it's working. Even easier to move to another county than a state. But if your plan is to make me give you a pass on the Hillary dinner it's not working. If I win you will buy me a nice dinner and you will have to sit and talk to me. I am already looking forward to it.

Maybe then they could find the revenue to repave the streets around the lake.  I'm tired of potholes.

As poor as Coosa County is I am surprised CR 20 is in as good acondition as it is.

Back in the 90's when I had business dealings in Coosa county their main source of revenue was fines from hunting violations. There seems to be even less going on there now so I can't imagine its any different now. Like Hodja I am surprised any of the roads are drivable.
