"Job openings soared 8 percent to 5.75 million in July, the most since records began in 2000, the Labor Department said Wednesday. A separate report on Friday showed that U.S. unemployment fell to a seven-year low of 5.1 percent last month. If the hiring situation continues to improve it could potentially lead to higher wages and rising inflation."

MM, time to tell why this is bad. Mr Doom and Gloom!!!!

...and in the convoluted and discombobulated world of government stats, that is the reason the unemployment rate is 5.1%.

Look at the labor participation rate and adjust the unemployment rate for say the labor pool in 2009 when dear leader took the reins (I won't even ask you to include the 175K each month of new entrants into the labor pool since then just to make it look a little rosier....I'm such a nice guy).  I think you may be in for a surprise when you see that the actual unemployment number is closer to 10% (7% for whites and close to 20% for blacks).    You see Goofy, that number doesn't include the millions that have given up ever finding a job which is the worst since 1977 when we had another failed President the peanut farmer.

You are so economically illiterate Goofy that I actually feel sorry for you.  Ask for a refund from your government school because they failed to provide you with the ability to think critically.

Yep, and the percentage of people in the USA over 65 years old and the percentage of younger people in college instead of the workforce  is the highest since at least the 10th century!! This labor market participation rate is a tired old favorite statistic much trotted out by the Obama haters...it is much more reflective of demographics than economics.

how MM loves to cheery pick his "facts".  Some facts support his opinions and some do not...guess which ones he is willing to share??

BTW: Unemployment claims are down 6000 in the past week...one of the facts probably of no interest to Martiny Man

Regularly points out to his adoring crowds that real unemployment is over 10%.  Feel the Bern GF, feel the Bern.  Man, even a geriatric socialist can do better math than you and your dear leader.

Yeah, yeah yeah Archie,

A more valuable statistic would be how many of those 65 and older are supplying housing to their children who live like vagabonds, with valuable college degrees, many with advanced degrees and debt who can't locate work in this putrid environment.  I don't know what world you live in Archie, but Atlanta is no job mecca.

Where do you live in Atlanta (l assume you live in Atlanta since you are such an expert in the local job market)?

Where I live (In-town) there are a lot of "help wanted" signs, hundreds of new jobs have come to the west side and around O4W. Perhaps we are not the mecca for jobs that we were in 2000 but we still attract over 75,000 new people a year with over 40,000 new jobs last year, thousands of new multi-family residences under construction and it is one he// of a lot better than it was in the waining years of W's administration.

If you are in Atlanta I suspect it is in the burbs...I suggest you come down to the Beltline lantern parade tonight...you might learn something and have a good time.

I just flagged CRDocs post just to show how l can be just as and silly childish as the big bad babies who can't stand to read truth and fact and show their colors by flagging posts that are so insensitive as to point out truth and fact.  For the life of me l cannot see how anybody could see my post about growth and Atlanta as "Inappropriate".  Maybe someone can explain it to me?

have 2 daughters in the 4th ward area adjacent to the beltline.  See them alot.  Talk alot to the renters there, their view of the current job market and yours are a dichotomy.

What happens if you narrow your search to Full time, non contract, and no logistics or sales?

For those of you that might want to blame the significant drop in the labor participation rate on retirees I refer you to a study by the Chicago Fed.  They conlcuded only 20%-25% of the drop in the labor participation rate is a result of retirees.  Makes sense to me as you add 175,000 new people to the job roles every month.  Only the early boomers have hit retirement age and can't account for the millions of new people not working and not looking.

So why does the size of the labor force matter? For one, if people are leaving the labor force for economic reasons (and they're not going back to school), it would mean the economy is in much worse shape than the official unemployment rate suggests.

The size of the labor force also goes a long ways to determining America's growth prospects. If, say, Baby Boomers are retiring faster than expected, then long-run U.S. economic growth will be lower than projected.

Even worse, if discouraged workers are dropping out of the labor force entirely, they may never make their way back into jobs — they may become unemployable. That's a massive human tragedy. It could also mean the U.S. economy will be significantly weaker in future.

And this:

To put this in perspective: If the same percentage of adults were in the workforce today as when Barack Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 10.8 percent.

Yep, and left wing nuts think its a good thing.  More people reliant on govt means more votes for big government politicians.
