No explanation is necessary.

Well, if you consider the full extent of his remarks, he said "lets stop talking about emails and talk about the issues".  It would be a refreshing change for candidates to talk about what their plan to address issues and stop talking about the rumor mill and Donald Trump's latest outrageous act/statement.  I'm really more interested in hearing about a candidate's plan to address issues rather than hearing them bad mouth each other.  If you think about the last Republican debate, most the time was spent allowing the candidates to respond to what Trump said about them.  And while amusing, it isn't really productive or insightful.

The thing with Hilary's emails is going to play out eventually, and I sincerely doubt that anything is really going to come out of it.  Those that are committed to Hilary are still going to be committed to Hilary, and those that aren't going to vote for her are still not going to vote for her.  And the thing with McCarthy and the Bengazi committee gave her a bigger boost among her supporters than anything else might have.  It took her from paranoid to vindicated - yes, they really are out to get her.

And you know I am no fan of Hilary.

If you think they cheered because they want to "get back to the issues" you have not been paying attention.  They cheered because they know this is a serious issue and has rightly damaged Hillary's poll numbers.  There is a reason 90% of the media in poll after poll vote Democrat and it does impact their coverage of politics.

I do agree what McCarthy said was not only stupid but was untrue.

What makes you think it was untrue?

OK, if you take what he said literally it was obviously correct but I was referring to how it has been presented to the public.  If you take what he said as it is being presented and spun by the media and Hillary's campaign it is completely false.  His words have been twisted to imply that the only purpose of the investigations and hearings was to damage Hillary.  That is false.  The purpose of the hearings was to figure out exactly what happened when our ambassador and three other Americans were sodimized and strangled by Islamic militants.  The original reason that Hillary and others in the government stated for the attack, a spontaneous reaction to some obscure video trailer that no one had even seen or heard of was proven to have been an abject and unmitigated lie that they repeated often for political gain. That deserves and investigation. There was plenty of evidence that requests for additional security were turned down.  That deserves an investigation. And so on and so on that all justified an investigation.  Unless you no longer believe in the separation of powers and are willing to grant the executive branch monarchal status, this is a legitimate role of Congress and one that Democrats used on a constant basis during GOP administrations.  That it has morphed into other areas is entirely the fault of Clinton for lying and violating the law by having a private server that she used exclusively for government business in order to avoid exaclty this kind of scrutiny.

I can't even believe I have to point all this out as it is so blatanly obvious.  Hillary has no one but herself to blame for the political damage done as a result of all this.  And if you think we would have learned about all these lies and illegal use of a private email server and her hiding important evidence related to Benghazi if Democrats contolled the House you are delusional.  That is the point that McCarthy was making and it is entirely correct.  The party line from the media and the Clinton campaign are demonstrabluy false.  And McCarthy's stupid comment and the way he stated it gave them an easy avenue to spin it exactly the way they did and hence, so long Speakership and rightly so.

Given the absolute panic of Republicans about Hilary being "unbeatable", it would not surprise me to know that the Committee was, in fact, put together for the dual purpose of doing an inquiry and trying to discredit Hilary.  Now that it doesn't look like she is unbeatable, they can say whatever they want about the Committee.  I"m trying to remember if conclusions came out as a result of that Committee.  I guess too many years in Washington has left me a bit cynical and now that everything is political, nothing would surprise me.

One thing is for sure - that Kevin McCarthy wishes he hadn't said what he did.

Well I don't think anyone thought of her as unbeatable, at least on the GOP side.  I think we all learned in 2008 how beatable she was by some obscure, unaccomplished community agitator from Chicago.  They saw her as the clear frontrunner on the Democrat side and as I recall there were lots of voices saying she would be ideal to run against given all her baggage, how lousy a candidate she is, how shrill and unlikable, etc.  Look, I'll stipulate that most of what happens in DC is political.  That is the very nature of the beast.  But the committee was formed to find out what happened in Benghazi because we know what the administration was saying was proved to be false.  And Hillary was only one of many people telling the same lie.  Obama lied.  Susan Rice lied.  Hillary lied.  That this has morphed into a big political liability for Hillary is her own fault.

As for McCarthy, I think you are right.  Amazing how a couple of sentences can have such a dramatic impact but that is the reality we live in with the 24/7 news cycle and an alternate media that actually gets the news out versus the govt media that is in the tank for the Dems.

BTW, just read that another Republican, Richard Hanna, says that Kevin McCarthy told the truth about why the committee was formed.  I'm not making this up.  Do you ever remember seeing or reading the conclusions of the Benghazi Committee.  I need to google that and see what I get.

Yeah I saw that this afternoon.  Some guy not even on the committee who wouldn't know what he is talking about.  No wonder people call the Democrats the Evil Party and the GOP the Stupid Party.  Another one headed to the woodshed.  Funny how when you look at what the Dems on the committee were saying at the outset (i.e., no claims of a political witch hunt against Hillary) compared to today when the damage is being done you probably already know what you need to know.

Time to kick them all out and start again.

Great in theory but I suspect they will be replaced by a similarly evil or stupid person.  SUch is the nature of people drawn to politics.  Some start off with the best of intentions and end up giving into temptation, others are stupd or evil from the outset.

Sadly you are right.  You know it is a great gig when people claim they are taking a pay cut to do it, yet want to be re-elected term after term after term.

Why spend $200 million to get a $400,000 job?
