and the off-topic area become a political mud hole?
I guess if it has to be discussed on this Forum, then this must be the best category.
There are plenty of other internet forums for those who want to debate political and society issues.
I am certainly sick of it. As lamont stated recently on the specific category, he only gets riled when it is something he can have an effect on. I have to agree 100%.
I guess maybe Bruce could start a Political Topic arena. Then I would not visit it.
Maverick and I persuade most of you political debaters to take these issues from the Lake Martin Specific arena last year, and all of you complied. I thank you for it, but I never thought it would go to this extreme.
It looks like a nice weekend ahead of us. Lets all enjoy and have a Great Lake Weekend.

You can call this a political mudhole if you wish. However, I totally disagree with your assessment of the importance of this forum's "off topics". In my opinion, there is nothing more important in this country than understanding what's going on on Wall Street, GM, Chrysler, Housing, Terrorism, etc. Even though I might not agree with some of the post, they still have value and on a few items I have modified my stance and understanding.
We cannot put our heads in the sand. Pretending that this country does not have major issues is an understatement. My vote is to let the forum proceed as is and when the subject is exhausted, comments will dry up.

I agree with you Lotowner. Who can straighten what has been made crooked? When times are good, be happy. When times are bad you must consider and ponder on the situation. This is what has made America great. We will make decisions about what we like and don't like. We will stand up for changes we want and accept what we agree with. Sometimes bad times have to come for some to understand and appreciate what they have or want in this life.I for one have young children and my decisions will effect their future. This forum allows us to filter through our thoughts and consider others views. If there needs to be a political forum for the time being, fine by me. I thought Off- topic covered any and all topics away from the lake. It just happens to be an important subject at this time. I

I know how you libs hate facts, but I got a few for ya my dear old friend. I am going to compae/contrast the two most prolific political posters.
MartiniMan - First post 3-28-06 He has 816 off topic, 176 LM topic, and 1 Boat Maint for a total of 993 in a little over 3 YEARS.
Tallulahound - First post 9-1-08 She has 997 Off Topic and 180 LM topic for total of 1177 in right at 8 MONTHS.
I can assure you, as I know that you already know from your lurking months, that the vast majority of your wifes' posts are of a political nature. So who is it that is cluttering up the board with political posts? The facts are clear! Clean your own house before complaining of the condition of others.
Personally I enjoy the political discourse. Elections have consequences and now the country I grew up in is dying on the vine at a pace I never thought possible. I know that you are most likely ecstatic with the way things are headed, but you have always been anti-private sector and are clueless as to how the world works outside your little comfort zone.
Now I would be remiss if I didn't point out that once again, one of the features that you whined for for so long, has turned into ammunition to use against you. It was all give use an ignore feature, give us a rating system, ad nauseum. And it was all in an effort to control me. Hows that working out for ya?

Comfort zone. Oh yes, I have not lived in a comfort zone until I retired. You have never in your life worked as hard as I have or faced as much danger as I have.
The fact you are where you are and where I am is a true indication of who has been a sucess in life or not. By the way share some facts with us and tell us what you do for a living (meaning work). I would like to hear of your less than comfort zone of working. Do you have a job? Are you on some sort of disability or unemployment role? Please give us some facts.
You do not have the qualifications to of accomplished what I have in my life. Your Government is hiring and looking for qualified and dedicated employees. You simply would not qualify for even a mid-level Government position. Don't give us some crap about lazy and do nothing civil service jobs. You have no idea or even a reference point.
Where did you receive your post high school education? How much have you sacrificed in life to get ahead. You are always sharing with all of us your intelligence. What have you done with it?
Why don't you give us some real facts and tell us about yourself vs. criticizing other's sucess. How many times did you say you attempted to join the military? Lets see, I seem to recall it was "THREE TIMES". Pleases share some facts with us and tell us what you were rejected for and why it would of changed to where you kept trying to get in and could not? I have to hear this one.
You have never served and yet you criticize those of who have. It is not just me but others on this Forum. You even criticize those who do volunteer work and try to make a difference. All I can think of is jealousy.

I draw 400 a month disabillity. I live in section 8 housing. I get a small utility supplement each month. But now that the messiah is prez, I am no longer worried about my future. I'm reading the thread but I have nothing to say. Feb and I are two different people that happen to be in love and married to each other. And we both love Lake Martin.
He doesn't need to hide behind me, nor I behind him. He stands with his comments, opinions, etc as I do with mine. He doesn't need me to defend him any more than I need him to defend me.
Needless to say, in the 30 years we've been married, we don't always agree but that's what keeps it interesting.

Yes, I am Pro-Government when it comes to National Defense. That is the sector I worked in for 34 years.
You appear to be rather ignorant as to why we even need a Government. I guess you would simply send our soldiers, sailors and marines into the field to forage for their food, uniforms,and equipment.
Why want you tell us your backgrond and what qualifies you to know anything about our Government or Capitalism? The simple reason is because you are a total loosers and a drain on society as opposed to a contributor. Just tell us about anything you have ever done to help any sector of society.

Well then, just tell us how the private sector works. I would like to hear your background and qualifications to know. What have you done in the private sector? Please tell us. We would all like to know your qualifications.
I have not worked in the private sector, but I have been offered numerous jobs with large corporations. I do have an undergraduate and a masters degree in business and management from Troy University (undergraduate) and Temple (Masters).
Close to 24 years of my 34 years of working experience was dealing directly with Defense and Commercial contractors. Many of those years was as a Contracting Officer with and unlimited warrant. Like that would even mean anything to the likes of you.
Go ahead and ask Bruce how many times I have ever contacted him and what I have ever stated to him. I have never met the man nor can I recall ever talking to him. On the other hand, I gather you have.

My apologies if I assumed incorrectly. Anytime someone starts to complain about political discourse I immediately assume liberal because they are so quick to want to censor opposing viewpoints as they cannot compete in the arena of ideas and logic.
I still don't understand the complaint about the amount of political discourse. Someone posts about a political issue and others weigh in if the topic is of interest to them or not. It just so happens in this current political environment where Obama is in the process of implementing a Socialist's wet dream that there is a lot of interest in the topic.
If you are truly a conservative then you would want free markets and that is the forum in spades. There are a lot of other great threads that do not touch on politics. Also, you are free to start a thread that is non-political and if others are interested they will post.

As for transportation, well, I have heard of a new Obama program that gives cars to us less fortunate so I am sure I will be getting one soon. You don't have to read them. Feb bashing is my favorite pastime. I had actually told his wife (hound) that if he 'came back' I wouldn't do it any more, but he chose to go from months of lurking to attacking me again on his first day of posting, so therefore my offer to NOT bash feb was rescinded. He can go back to lurking at any time he wants. Or he can stick around and continue to pick fights he can't win. Summer is my slowest time so I have a lot of extra time to devote to my favorite hobby.

Why do we have to continually have this debate about who knows about business and who knows about government. Why don't we all have a ground rule in these discussions that we are all at least basically conversant about how business works and how government works? It's not that one is better or worse than the other.
Swimmer, you would lose the bet about Feb's education. I can assure you he has a Masters in Business Managment from Temple University. He got it around '95. He actually did some post graduate work after he got the Masters too. I remember it well. I spent two birthdays alone so he could take exams and he got quite ticked off when I implusively bought some gumdrop azaleas to plant on a weekend when he was working on his paper.
And I can personally assure you that he is very conservative, both fiscally and in terms of national defense. We both are.
I'm going to ask Bruce if we can have a "rant" board.

I have felt bad for you for a decade now. I don't look down on anyone Lamar, never have, never will. You on the other hand have shown for years that you look down on a good portion of society. You can deny it for the the newbies, but us 'old timers' have seen it too many times through the years.
