Looking to buy a new Suzuki 90HP 4 stroke motor to replace my 2000 Johnson 90 2 stroke. Any reviews, comments,or suggestions on the motor.

You will love a 4 stroke. The only disadvantage is the 4 stoke is heavier than the 2 and this can cause a smaller boat to be weighed down in the back. A typical 2000 Johnson 2 stroke weighs approximately 325 lbs. The 2008 Suzuki 90 weighs 420lbs, a rather big difference on a smaller boat. However, the 2009 Suzuki 90 is a newly designed motor. It weighs 348 lbs which is not much more than your Johnson. The post below has a decent review of the 2009. I assume you are looking at a 2009. You may want to post in Boat Maintenance. However,
a comparison between a 2009 and previous Suzuki 90 would probably not be fair
based on the improvements.

Curiosity question. What are the advantages of Suzuki over Honda and/or Yamaha? When I looked at the Aquapalooza pix and videos H&M was all I saw.

Cost may be one. How does Suzuki match up in performance and reliability?

I have a vested interest. I have a 25 foot 'toon with an 80 hp Yamaha 4 - but it needs some more oomph. Always looking to maximize the efficiency of limited resources...

Comments??

Sorry, should have been H&Y...maybe it was a Freudian slip and I was really thinking S&M...

Suzuki has been offering a 6 year warranty in the past. aaaaaaai've owned a 90 hp honda,40 hp yamaha,175 hp and 25 hp Suzuki. Suz had a better warrany, and costs less than the others mentioned.

The warranty is a big issue to me along with the highly positive rating, but the main reason is the service and dealer end. Mark Carboni in Tallassee is great to work with, competent, and a gentleman of integrity.

If you get the 4-stroke, be sure to install a water/fuel separator filter. The least bit of water will damage fuel injectors. I always use a bottle of sea foam with every tankful of gas. You'll love a 4-stroke!

What is sea foam please? I have a 2005 70HP Johnson 4 stroke (made by and identical to the Suzuki)and use a water separator, but have never heard of this? I guess I'm lucky, but in three years the separator has not picked up any water in the fuel. It is one with a clear bowl so you can easily see if any collects.

Have used it in all my gas and equipment (2 cycle and 4 cycle) that sits up such as dirt bikes, sea doos, chain saw, outdoor gas equipment, and all premixed gas cans, etc etc.

Then in cars every other oil change (6,000 miles) and in the boats every 25 hours and when winterized and summarized.

You can pick it up at any AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts and some Walmarts (of course Walmart is cheapest if you can find it) and I have begun buying gallons instead of pints.
