A quick glance at Google maps gives me the impression that "running" up there is not a good idea at winter pool, even with good electronics. There are lots of sand bars to contend with, not to mention hidden hazards that can't be seen because of the muddy water in the satellite view.  Going slow while watching your electronics and reading the channel would be safer until you are familiar with the river.
