Comments above are very helpful. One strong I/O argument in the past was you don't have to buy outboard engine oil. That is a mute point now with 4-strokes. Weight is a big issue for me since I winch my boat under a shed. Don't think my setup now would handle a heavier I/O engine.

Wondered about speed of the two types engines with equal HP?
