I was pulling my son (12 years old, 5'9, 170lbs) behind our pontoon boat which has a 60 hp motor. We can't really go fast. We had been out earlier and came off the lake because I felt like the traffic was too much. Alot of jet skis and boats with much more hp and alot more maneverability than I had. I had pulled the little kids and was pulling my oldest. He was up on his knees adjusting his life jacket and was not holding on but he had done that all summer. I don't know if the tube hit a wave wrong, I don't know if the rope possibly had some slack or got caught on something but he went down and the rope came up and he hit the connect we were using between the tube and the rope. It's a metal quick release which I should have known better than to use but in my experience at the lake (43 years) making sure the rope wasn't in danger of breaking was the biggest issue. When he came off, I didn't know he was hurt but was coming around as fast as I could because of the traffic. We saw him and heard him then. Fortunately he got his first aid badge at scout camp this summer and knew to put pressure on his wound and my watcher on the boat had also just had her safety first aid course for school. They both knew not to use a towel if possible to stop the bleeding (I didn't). We got him in the boat and headed for the dock. The early pressure on the wound kept him from going into shock. We also didn't have a blow horn on the boat (have a horn but it's not that loud). We have a fire extinguisher which I know it is required. I don't know if the horn is but we will be putting one on anyway just to get the attention of people on shore. It was the one time this weekend when we pulled up to the dock that no one was there. Hope this helps, ask me anymore questions, and I'll take any advice/criticism given. It was simple grace of God that it wasn't worse - Alice
