No mention of the physician reimbursement issue but that is an issue for Congress to grapple with before December 1. It will be interesting to see how the lame duck Congress handles the issue. It will be surprising if the reduction actually becomes effective as this issue comes up every year.

Wix, what plan is increasing rates 141%? You can change plans every year just as you can with Medicare D. I suspect if a plan is showing that high an increase for 2011 then it was way underpriced in 2010 and you received a good deal for the year.

If a premium is $100 per month, a 141% increase would increase the premium to $241. A 166% increase of a $20 co pay for a doctor visit would be an increas of $33 and make it $53 per visit. You sure of your numbers?

Rates for Medicare Advantage from what I have read are increasing 1-2% for 2011. Where are you numbers coming from?

Here is an exerpt from a recent WSJ article on the same subject:

"In June, federal officials received 2,100 bids from private insurers hoping to offer Medicare Advantage plans next year. Officials said Tuesday they denied rate increases and benefit cuts in 298 cases. As a result, they said, Medicare Advantage premiums will be 1% lower on average in 2011.

The plans, on average, carry higher co-payments and deductibles. Taking those into account, the core benefit package will cost seniors an extra $13 per month, the government said, at a time when many Americans are facing double-digit rises in their health-insurance costs."
