Never had a sandwich from Publix. But a little bit of research goes a long way. Maybe they've never had the real thing, so they modify it for the "Southern" palate. But I'm pretty sure that most Southerners would appreciate the real thing.

None of this stuff is hard to do, because it is essentially "peasant" food.
