I had a similar humidity problem and did considerable research. The problem is that humidity can build even when the house is at a comfortable temperature and also in the winter. I went with the Aprilaire 1770 whole house dehumidifier. This unit can be ducted into a hvac system or run as a stand alone. In my situation, it works fine as a stand alone in the crawl space. If your area is open, this would probably also be the case. I talked to the Aprilaire tech support folks at length about sizing and ducting and this is what they recommended for the best value. The unit is great and completely automatic. It samples air on a regular basis, and if the humidity is above the desired level it runs....if not, it shuts off. This time of year, it runs a lot and there is a constant trickle of water piped outside. It makes the house much more comfortable working in conjunction with the heat pump. It is easy to install if you don't duct it in (just level it up and have a draining system). Instructions for ducting it into hvac are provided and this would also be fairly easy (but it requires some extra materials). Warranty is also very good. I Looked at several units, and like this the best in the price range I was considering.
