Had my daughter wake surfing behind the boat and she fell. As I was turning around I noticed a bigger boat moving along quickly with his bow up suddenly turn toward where she was. I knew they could not see her because I could not see any faces (it was a v-hull with cuddy cabin). I jammed the throttle down to put my boat between them and her and at the same time she saw them and started to swim toward shore. He kept coming until I blew my horn and finally got his attention and he slowed down.

When he came along side as he was passing us I told him I was trying to get his attention because I had someone in the water. Mine was more of an explanation about why I basically drove right toward him and blew the horn. He just sort of dismissed me with an arm wave and drove away so I'm not sure whether he realized he almost ran her over or not. I have to admit I woke up in a cold sweat that night imagining what might have happened if he had never seen me as I had a boat full of people, including a 1 year old.

Just reminded me that vigilance is important because not everyone is paying close attention when traveling at high speed. Still can't figure out why he suddenly decided to veer toward her but I know he never saw her until he heard my horn blowing. And if he had hit her and had been drinking (even if the drinking had nothing to do with the accident) it would be a double tragedy. In a way I hope he realized what almost happened and had his cold sweat as well. How you can cruise along at relatively high speed and the bow up is beyond me.
