I read yesterday that PBS/CPB recieved their annual funding from the feds during the shutdown to the tune of $445 million. I will not even go into the whether that funding should even be in the budget. I just use this ONE example to illustrate a point.

The population of the U.S.A. is 325 million to use round numbers. So instead of funding PBS, or any number of other boondoggles, the U.S. Treasury could cut a check to every American for $1 million and still have $100 million left over. Now that would be an economic stimulus. Of course if I ruled the world at the same time I would do away with HUD, no more housing subsidies, EVER. I would even give anyone living in federal housing a deed to their property along with upkeep and utilities they would be responsible for. No more welfare, EVER. In fact the only payments would be to SS recipients because they paid in and were promised it, but a phase out of that would be worked out too. I'm sure you see where I am going with this.

Of course some folks would be broke again in no time. Too bad. You had better hope one of your friends or loved ones was smart enough to be frugal, and willing to take you in.

If Bush's $300 was supposedly a stimulus imagine what this plan would do for the economy. Just a pipe dream of course. It could never happen because the politicians would not be able to control most folks anymore with the paltry checks they get now.
