In my experience there is no one set answer. Many factors must be considered i.e.; type of bottom (sand, mud, chirt, bedrock), the number and sizes of boats to me moored, and last but not least is location. If you are on big water with constant trafic you may need to go deeper than if you are in the back of a creek or long slough. I also think that if McGill has had good results then 8 feet ought to cover it about anywhere on the lake, but may be overkill in many areas. I know where some are that only went 4 feet and have gotten great performance also, but those are in low traffic areas. I would seek advice from someone that has actual knowledge of your unique situation.
