This is our problem as well during long weekends when we have too much trash to fit into one can.  Fortunately for us, our neighbors allow us to put our overflow trash in their cans if they are not full.  What really helps us is we separate our recyclables home to put in our can.  One option is to put a sign on your trash can that will hopefully shame them into doing the right thing.  I guess as a final step if they ignore that is to try to film them doing it.
