“So, Major, what is your solution?”  Well Carlson... because you asked:

1 – It is the role of Congress to set immigration law. Nothing permanent can be done until Congress passes a law with teeth.  Until then, the President is legally able to set immigration policy by executive order if it is the best interest of national security.  Currently, we have… in defiance of our own best interests… the most lenient and nearly nonexistent immigration laws.

2 – Asylum must be granted only at embassies and consulates.   The President can require that ALL requests for asylum be filed at an embassy or consulate.  For those who enter the country illegally, we need an Ellis Island arrangement whereby applicants can be screened and detained until the case for asylum is verified.  Fleeing crime and poverty, no matter how unfortunate, is NOT grounds for asylum. With respect to crime and diseases - screening is most appropriate

3 – Mexico is a significant part of the problem.  “Behavior is a results of its consequences” – B. F. Skinner.  We need to ratchet up the consequences to Mexico for abetting illegal immigration to the United States (safe passage, transportation, logistical support, tolerance of criminal trafficking, etc).  Our methods are (can be) to decrease monetary foreign aid to Mexico and then… if Mexico remains intransigent… to completely close the border (suspend commerce).  Mexico is absolutely dependent upon us.  It seems that, at this time, we are doing all of the compromising.

4 – Build the wall. Instead of catch and release, we need to catch and return.  Entertain absolutely NO asylum requests from illegal border crossers.  As the flow of immigrants piles up at the border, Mexico will be forced to crack down. It will be a humanitarian nightmare.  We have a right to our sovereignty and Mexico needs to respect that right.  We don’t (currently) need a wall on our Canadian Border… do we?

5 – Convert all foreign aid to El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, to monitored materiel support through USAID.  No money.

6 – If you enter our country illegally, neither you nor your children will ever become citizens.  You will not be eligible for welfare or any other financial stipend. You will receive only EMERGENCY medical care.  You will not be entitled to public schooling.  Your children born here will not be granted birthright citizenship.  If you commit a crime you will be imprisoned... and then, when your sentence is completed, you will be summarily deported.

7 – If you are a commercial enterprise and you hire an illegal alien, you will be fined $10,000 per illegal employee and you will become ineligible for any federal contracts.  If you are a private citizen and you hire an illegal alien, you will be fined $1,000 per job performed by an illegal alien.  There are no fish on an un-baited hook.

Barring significant and meaningful action on the part of Congress… you know… those people that “We the people” elect to represent us:

Constitutional convention by the states

And… inevitably… not in our lifetime… the reality of the 2nd Amendment.
