You are correct but I think most people don't understand what the percent effective actually means.  They think it means 90 out of 100 people would not get the virus.  That is not correct.  It basically means that each vaccinated person has around a 90% chance of not having serious symptoms.  The real problem here is two fold.  One, the current crop of vaccines seem to be wearing off rapidly and two, they are not nearly as effective against the variants.  I think what you will see, and what has happened in Israel, is that the promise of these vaccines is not coming to fruition, hence the push for booster shots.  We would have known all this had the vaccines been tested in the normal manner but the political climate demanded something happen. 

So none of this bothers me all that much and is not surprising.  But what does concern me even more is long-term effects of these experimental gene therapies and whether the mass use of a vaccine in the middle of a pandemic will have long-term negative consequences.  All these events were predicted but those predictions were ignored.  We will never get to herd immunity using the current approach and it will never go away.  Good for Moderna, Pfizer and J&J to have long-term revenue streams but not so much for the rest of humanity.
