You should be able to find enough water that is away from houses that you can set up on to hunt. There is no state regulation saying how far away you must be from a house while waterfowl hunting. This means if you really wanted to you could anchor off of someone’s pier and go to town. But any hunter with any ethics about them is going to try and find the happy medium between having a successful hunt and not making everyone want to drown you because you woke them up or because you are shooting the animals they regularly feed. I have never set up in someone’s “front yard” and I never will. But this also means if I can get a good spot 250 yards away from a house then so be it. Now, for all the non-hunters out there, this is not a threat. I know some people will take it that way but I am not saying I am going to come kill every goose on the lake. There are many people that consider them pets because they feed them on a regular basis. But the trashcan I have outside our house in Moon Branch feeds a lot of coons and other animals that you and I would NEVER consider pets. Geese are wild animals. They are not domesticated and they are not pets. Otherwise they would have collars and would stay inside at night. The special season is set up because of the over-abundance of the birds in the state. That is the reason for the early season in September. Hopefully this will help the ones looking to hunt Martin without pi**ing off too many non-hunters.
