Live on MS coast, worked in and around New Orleans for over twenty years. Interesting facts:
1. It was the Ohio National Guard that killed at Kent State, if my memory serves me.
2. New Orleans had a Valadictorian of one of its high Schools that had to take the graduation exit exam five times before passing - newspaper article--last year.
3. The police chief that replaced the one mentioned in the 1990s solved the murder rate--he instituted a policy whereby if a victom died before reaching a hospital then it was murder--if he made it to a hospital then it was assault. That Police Chief is now chief in Washington, DC!!!!
4. The Mayor's problem is that he is an outsider, not in the clique of theives; therefore, ineffectual--on top of being an idiot.
5. Each levee in N.O. is governed by a Levee Board--political appointments made by the Governor--you can bet the highest qualified graduate civil engineers get those jobs!!!
6. Moreal' was the mayor who sued the firearms companies--thought he and his buddies could skim off some cash--case thrown out. Had a cocaine arrest on his record. He was son of Dutch Moreal', ex N.O. Mayor. Mary Landreau, current US Senator from LA, is the daughter of Moon Landreau--the last crooked white mayor of N.O..
This goes on and on, but if you want to help people where you know your money will do the MOST good; help the people of MS. Unfortunately, the Red Cross is about as efficient as the US Gov.----Go down and help someone clean out their house--send money to a church of your choice.
Our church had over 80 volunteers living in tents on the grounds and working in people's homes. The 911 Foundation (funded by the families of 911 victoms)sent in a trailer truck load ($25,000+) of needed stuff the day before yesterday, to out church where it was dispensed immediately to victoms.
