Subject:   drunk boater hits cliffs

We happened to be out fishing last Wednesday evening and heard someone calling out every few seconds. Sounded like it could be a distress call so my husband lowered our boat and checked it out.
Found a guy slumped over in his boat, not moving, floating out in the water from the cliffs, taking on water. My husband came straight back to the dock to tell me to call 911 and then he returned to help the guy.
It was obvious he had been drinking. His boat (a very nice Cobalt)
was totally smashed through the hull in the front and on the bottom.
You can still see parts of the hull up about 12 feet on the rocks. I don't know how that guy came out of the accident okay but apparently, he did.
He was soaking wet so he must have been thrown out and then climbed back in teh boat. My hustand stayed with him until Red Hill Fire Department responded and then the Marina Police. The guy could barely talk and didn't want to move. My husband and one of the volunteers towed his messed up boat to our dock and we secured it to our boathouse in shallow water so they would have something to retrieve, otherwise it would have completely sunk. We found out that he was released later that night from Russell Medical Center. What an idiot...but a lucky idiot!
