What sticks in the minds of the viewers is not that two letter word but the gist of the information that follows "if". And it's like the attorney who says something while the jury is seated. When the judge says "the jury will disregard" the damage remains.

Exactly what are you accomplishing when you suggest that people not get involved because it really doesn't matter (in your closed mind) what they say? You must be a Borg. Their mantra, "Resistance is futile".
