Quick fact-check for you:

"The University investigated and somehow kept the NCAA out of the matter"-- Why would the NCAA be involved, unless it was determined that student-athletes were being given benefits not available to other students? Since only a small percentage of those involved were athletes (and and even smaller percentage football players) it wasn't an athletics problem; it was an academic problem.

"determined that independant studies would be ended indefinitely because of grades being given to students, mostly student athletes."-- I addressed your "mostly student athletes" mistake above. As for your claim that IS courses would be ended, you couldn't be more wrong. The IS program is alive and well; it is just being monitored more closely. (This should have been done long ago.) Professors are now limited in the number of IS courses they can offer, and the classes muct be approved. And before you get back on your high horse, you'd better check to make sure that YOUR school-- be it Alabama, Georgia, or someone else-- doesn't offer Independent Study courses. Here's a clue: they do.

" I don't seem to remember Tubby sitting a single player out for involvement in this incident."-- Despite what the newspapers want you to think, this incident occurred in 2004; the professor who had been teaching too many classes cut back the number LAST year. In other words, it was old news already when the New York Times "broke" the story. Any suspensions would have been handed out then (assuming the coaches knew about it, which they apparently did not), or would involve many players who have since graduated.
