In other words, "I can't define liberal or conservative but I'm going to use the terms anyway because Rush told me to." :-)

I think we both agree on one point: if it comes from the mouth of a politician, it probably doesn't mean what it's supposed to.

Interesting thing about your definitions of what conservative used to mean:
fiscal responsibility-- who had a balanced budget (and even a budget surplus), Clinton or Bush?
religious based principles-- Jimmy Carter spent a great many Sundays in the pulpit.
and lower taxes-- Who said "Read my lips, no new taxes," only to pass many new taxes?

Just three examples of Dems upholding what would be considered conservative principles. There are plenty more, just as there are plenty of examples of GOPs that do many things that would be considered liberal. Which just goes to show that you need to judge the individual, and not the party line.
