Not CATBOAT but I will try to help. From Blue creek go south on 49 then west on 50. This takes you below the dam. One of the most beautiful dams in the southeast BTW. If you call in advance they will give you a guided tour. You may also choose to take the 'Scenic Overlook' that bears off to the right off 50 before the dam. It will take you to the overlook that has a 7-8 mille view up kowliga bay. But if you take the overlook it turns into a dirt road jsut past the overlook park. It is a very well maintained dirt road but still dirt. There is also about 11 miles of hiking trails that stem from the overlook. Most rated moderate I think. Google Cherokee trails for more info on them. Hwy 50 after the dam will run into hwy 259 and then a few miles over to hwy 63. There are a couple of neat little country store type places on that stretch of 50. The names slip by me right now but maybe somebody else can post them. One is a new eatery also I think. Go north and you will pass Kowliga Marina immortalized by Hank Williams. Worth a stop IMHO. Further north up 63 you will see the signs for Wind Creek State park. Stop at the gate and tell them you are just riding thru to site see or to go to the marina and they wont even make you pay the exorbatant $1 per person cover fee. After riding the park (largest state park in Alabama) take a right out ot the gate. That is Coven Abbott hwy. Follow it to hwy 280. 280 is four lane hwy, all the others are curvy state maintianed 2 lane hwy that are great for bikes IMHO. Go east (rt turn) onto 280. This a busy 4 lane and wil be the only 'traffick' you should encounter on this journey. Take 280 all the way into Dadeville, about 12 miles. At the red light at Macdonalds take a right back on to hwy 49 south and go thru Dadeville till you get back to Blue Creek.

One other side trip I can recommend is just outside of Dadeville if you go left on 49 north it is 12 miles out to horsebend national millitary park. It is pretty much a ride thru park with a couple of spots to stop and enjoy the scenery. Inside the main building you can watch a film on the battle of horseshoe bend. It is aobut 20 minutes long, and then they give a demostration of firing muskets outside. Worth the trip to me, but not all folks are into such things.

I highly recommend the overlook side trip, even if you turn around and go back down the paved side. It is only a few miles to see the best view on Lake Martin. Traffick should not be an issue at all on this trip. I take all my new out of town guests on this same trip. Just the ride without any stops and you are talking an hour and fifteen to one and a half hours at average speeds so that will give you a gauge on what time frame you will need.

I hope this helps make your trip to our jewel a little more satisfying and enjoyable. If you want a tour by water you will just have to pick me up and take me with you, I can't type that much.....lol.
