When we were looking, I found a place around Shelby that was 2 log houses, gently sloping lot with lots of pines and a couple of out buildings and if I remember, about 3 acres. 125k. But my wife wouldn't even look at it. Years ago there was a lot of noise about the polution from what was then KC in Lay Lake. I think Lay is probably one of the nicest in Alabama as far as shoreline and water. Now with the water situation, I think we both wonder about that decision.

But...I love it here on Logan Martin. My lot is steep, but I don't have to worry about flooding. We're in a great place as far as fire protection and insurance rates. And property values are whatever they are going to be. I have year round water (sort of, as much as possible given the drought) and the best sunset view of anywhere I have ever been and trust me, I've seen lots of great sunsets.

I used to keep a cuddy cabin boat on Martin. Never had to worry about yard work or building a pier or anything. We'd just anchor in a cove and we were home for the weekend. And if we didn't like that cove, we could go to another the next night. But as more houses went up, deserted coves got hard to find and some people, not many, thought we were camped on their property even though we were 250 feet from anybodies pier. But my gosh, I have less in my house, lot and boats than most lots alone on that lake. Where will it stop? Martin was nice. And you could ride all day and never see all the shoreline. But wow, Logan Martin rocks and it's nowhere near as crowded...yet.

Last time I rode south, I noticed the clearing south of the cliffs on the St. Clair side. Whats happening there? Also, anybody catch the article in todays local paper about Lincoln Harbor auctioning the condos?

Gotta run to town and then I'm hitting the pier. C ya.
