The Confederate Flag, that is; it wouldn't ft on the subject line.
IN the past, I flew the Confederate Flag proudly; to me it stood for honor, integrity, hospitality, good weather, and anything else that was good about the South.
It was about 25 years ago that a group of people began complaining about the flag, calling it a racist symbol. They were wrong. WERE wrong. Today, in many instances, they are right. Because a different group heard their complaints, and decided to adopt the flag that the first group hated as THEIR symbol.
I still feel the same way I always did about the Confederate Flag. But I never display it, because it IS a symbol of racism and bigotry. That DOES NOT MEAN that everyone who flies it is the least bit racist (how many will read this post and completely ignore that sentence?) BUt some who do are, and I don't want to be mistaken for one of them.
Reading the threads below you will read much venom. Which is typical, too many people are so intolerant as to be hateful when it comes to opinions other than their own. In my opinion, the only people I am mad at regarding this issue are those ignorant intolerant redneck racists who co-opted MY flag almost 25 years ago. When that other group 25 years ago claimed that the Confederate Flag was a racist symbol, they were wrong. Then this other group made them right.
