Foxes breed in late Winter, and their gestation is about 60 days. You're likely seeing the new pups investigating their surroundings. They are more curious, and much less shy and sly as their mature parents. Even the mature foxes will move about some during the day, but they are most active at night when their prey is much more easily attacked.

I have a popular denning area about 100 yards from my front door. It has been "vacant" for two years but I am happy to see a LARGE brood of pups again this year (I have seen 5 different pups, which is a HUGE brood for a red fox pair!)

They are extremely intelligent animals, and can be trained to be comfortable around humans. I have even trained 2 in the past to come to the sound of my calls, and to feed on my deck.
