An incredible thing has happened! Rescue K911 has been nominated for ABC's Extreme Home Makeover. If you are not familiar with this Rescue K911, let me tell you a little of what I know. Larry and Lorraine Weaver moved here several years ago from Florida. Their dream was to buy land and fix up an old farmhouse in Camp Hill, Alabama. They began to bring home homeless dogs that they would find on the road. Their hearts are so big that they could not turn down even one. They began to get so many dogs that their dreams of the farmhouse were slowly diminishing. They eventually got a mobile home and the farmhouse turned into a big doghouse!
After so many dogs came to live with them, Rescue K911 was born. Fencing had to be built, dogs had to be fed and watered, and medical care had to be provided. With both Larry and Loraine working full-time to try and and make ends meet, days were long, and volunteers and donations were few.
More and more dogs began to come, with Rescue K911, now housing almost 150 dogs. Fundraisers have helped and more people are now on the donation list. The volunteer count is better than it was in the beginning. The dog's now have better housing and even though the adoptions are low, it is certainly better than it was in the beginning.
But what about that original dream? I have never known Loraine or Larry Weaver to ask for anything, unless it was for the dogs. They have done without for as long as I have known them. The dog's needs have always come first, with nothing left for Larry and Loraine. I do not know anyone in this whole world who deserves this home makeover more than Larry and Loraine Weaver.
