How do they get free medical care by going to the emergency room? Isn't there a fee associated with the ER? I've only gone a couple of times and it seems like my insurance company always gets billed and I get the notice.
I feel sorry for anyone that thinks that health insurance is optional. What happens when they get cancer or some other very serious illness? My mother was a candidate for transplant surgery and they wouldn't even put her on the list until they verified that she had health insurance that would not only pay for the surgery, but also pay for the medications she would need for the rest of her life.

And how do they pay for prescription medicines?

Hard to imagine that anyone would think that health care is owed to them by their employer. Since I'm a retired Fed, I was able to carry mine into retirement and I pay for it (it's not cheap), but at least its under a group plan. I would hope that the politicians would figure out a way to create group plan opportunities for a lot of the uninsured, but I can't see how the country can afford to give it to adults for free.
