Do you remember a while back you stood firm that banks were never forced to make loans under the community reinvestment act and I pointed out that all major banks were under quotas and if they did not meet them there were law suits, and in fact Obama himself was involved in suing CitiBank.

Then our discussion led in to the banks being forced in to taking TARP dollars and you again said that the banks were not forced and if they did not want it they should give it back.

Hopefully you have followed the news about B of A and other banks that came out publically and stated they were foced to take money and to take over other banks and investment banking houses and told to keep quite. Bernanke, that I respect is under fire for doing this. Banks have wanted to give back TARP dollars and the Obama administration has put up all sorts of road blocks.

While Obama finally gave in on this point, initially he was insisting that even if a bank is approved to give back the dollars, if they had received at one point they would still have to live under the compensation guidelines. Thank God he gave in on that ... it was very scary to think the government would set levels of what people can make .... that is even going beyond socialism. What if you were told how much you can or can't make or charge a client.

Maybe you would like that if everyone lived under those rules ... no competition .... but also what differentiates someone that is more talented from being compensated appropriately?
