Oh I don't know, a poster depicting Lincoln as a monkey (one of many making fun of his appearance) would strike any thinking person as more disrespectful than calling him Abe. Besides, I called Bush Dubya all the time as it comes from the bumper sticker with just a "W". I never took it as disrespectful.

I still disagree about this being a new phenomenon and although it waxes and wanes it is always there. Carville called Bush 41 stupid.....recall the "It' the economy, stupid"? And please don't insult our intelligence by trying to claim this refers to someone else. It may have been ascendant during Clinton's terms because of his lack of character.
