I actually don't think from a political standpoint that the speech was stupid. It was just a campaign speech meant to rev up his base which was wavering because of his having reneged on almost every campaign promise he made.

But I thought it was classless and crude to have invited Ryan just to attack him just like it was classless and crude to have attacked the Supreme Court at his state of the union show. What I don't get is why you think Obama can be a uniter? What has he ever done in his career that would suggest that? He is your run of the mill former community agitatin Saul Alinsky Chicagos-tyle politician. He was a complete charade from the get go that way too many people took a hope on change and got hopeless and change for the worse.
