I've had Verizon for years and never been in a dead area anywhere in the country. While in Alabama, I keep reminding myself to do what a Verizon representative (personal friend as well) told me. Every 30 days hit *228 and follow the instructions. With Verizon leasing more and more towers and buying other companies, this updates your roaming capability. It not only works like that around the lake but anywhere in the country. You'll have up to date coverage and rarely have a dropped call plus IT'S FREE!

I have no affiliation with Verizon, just great coverage. BTW, previosly over the years, I have been with T-Mobile, Nextel and Cingular. Took me a while to get it right.
