I have a mercruiser 4.3lh that is throwing some odd readings to the factory tach in my '98 Doral.  The needle will tend to jump up a couple thousand rpm fairly regularly.  The motor isn't revving up any higher than normal.  The reading will often slide back down to the correct reading, but this seems to be an ongoing issue that I'd like to resolve.  Thoughts?
