Thanks for everyone who made suggestions to us about what to do.
Charlie will be fine. The Vet decided to leave the bullet, since removing it would probably cause him to drag his leg.
There would most likely be nerve damage if taken out.

Let me explain to some of you people how we care for Charlie. He is normally in an Invisable Fence. We don't typically let him run, but since it was so quiet at the lake and no one was around, we decided to let him outside of the fence. He had stayed close to my husband for most of the day, but disappeared moments before we left.Since it WAS so quiet, we could hear his rabies and his name tags dangling together LONG before we saw him.

The VET asked a police officer to look at the photos and xrays that she took. The bullet is lodged 6 inches deep, and he was shot with a 22 at about 20 feet away from an upward direction. (You can see the burn mark the bullet left as it entered the skin). Meaning,... either an adult shot him or the shot came from a higher position. LIKE FROM THE 2 STORY DECK THE MEN CAME FROM. Thankfully, the bullet did travel in a downward direction and not straight in or he would not be walking today. He is NOT one of these dogs that goes into the garbage, and he has been sent off to training for behavioral skills. He's a good dog, that would not hurt anyone. So the ones who shot him can not claim they were being "threatened". My husband did make a report through the sheriff's department, but made a quick assumption that nothing would be followed through with his report.

I'm sorry if this sounds angry, but I am. Angry that someone that lives in such close range of other homes would be so stupid to fire a gun AND be so heartless as to shot an innocent dog.
