I would estimate that it will have a somewhat negative effect on the Catholic vote but nowhere near what the HHS mandate did. Now if he were to come out and say that Catholic Church's would have to perform gay marriages it would have a very negative impact.

Sadly, far too many are cultural Catholics and don't live their faith consistent with the doctrines of the Church. The corrosive effects of the post Vatican 2 misinterpretation still has a lingering effect.
