In the next couple of weeks, we will be announcing the creation of Lake Martin Snake Removal. We'll have a website, we'll be advertising on this site, and so on.

If you can't wait that long, you can email us at snakeremoval@mindspring.com, and we can probably help. (The phone number will be active early next week, and I'll post it then.)

One service we will offer is Picture Identification; if you email us a pic we'll ID it for a small fee; if you need the Removal Service, then the Pic ID fee will be subtracted from the Removal Fee. But for the next week or so, I'll do Picture IDs for free; you can send them to the email address listed above.

One thing I can say, after almost five decades of studying snakes: most people are terrible at snake identification, especially if they don't like snakes, and even if they think they are experts. A general rule of thumb: if someone sees a snake and wants it dead, they probably aren't any good at all at identifying snakes. Sorry if that hurts some feelings, but in my experience, it's almost 100% true. So don't be too freaked out by stories about the hordes of Cottonmouths and Copperheads people see around the lake; the vast majority of those snakes are something else, and completely harmless. Last weekend I saw 21 snakes (unlike everyone else mentioned in this post, I was actually looking for them) and 20 of them were harmless.
