All, I just saw this on the forum (I'm new to the forum) and would like to respond for Lake Watch of Lake Martin. We responded to the reports of dogs dying in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas after contact with water that had toxic algal blooms by posting lots of info on aids to identyfing toxic algae blooms and how to keep you and your pet safe. To access the info, google: lake watch of lake martin facebook, or click on this link:  Lake Watch of Lake Martin Facebook Page .

And Talullahound is correct, thus far toxic algal blooms have not been a problem in Lake Martin. I have not heard of toxic algal bloom problems in the state, but if you hear of or observe a bloom please let me/Lake Watch know. We don't test for toxic algae since we don't have the capabilities to do so (we are an all-volunteer organization) and it has never been an issue in our lake - hopefully it will stay that way.  If you have any questions to pose to Lake Watch, please don't hesitate to contact us: Lake Watch Contact . And kudos to Talullahound for avoiding fertilizers (nutrients from fertilizers, wastewater treatment plants, livestock poop, and other sources), since they are a major factor in polluting our Treasured Alabama Lake and causing algae blooms.
