I originally didn't want to bring Lanier or any other lakes into the picture until Newcomer had a body of water to use as a comparison.

But, since GA lakes have been brought into the pix, okay, here's my 2-cents.

Yes, Lanier may be nice and close-by, even Allatoona being only 15-mins away, but lets look at the water itself:
- when people are swimming a few feet under the water, very tough to make-out even the outlines of the body let alone the color of the swimming suit.
- have to replace swimsuits each year due to discoloration. Primary color suits turn - green. Colors fade as well.
- acidity level "may" be acceptable by EPA but why do the Lanier/Allatoona marina boat-sellers state to bottom-paint due to hull-blistering after just 1-year. Even better is the sellers state to let the mfg. warranty take care of it a few months prior to expiration.

Now for LM:
- tough to sneek-up on someone and scare them 'cuz they can easily identify who is swimming-up to them under the water, sometimes up to 8-10' down. Doesn't count when a rain has just occurred but thats primarily in the main channel.
- the swimsuits we used from a couple years ago when first visiting LM still have lotsa color left, outside of spilled suntan lotion (and beer).
- worst item to the boat is some tough stains at the water line that come-off easily with hull cleaner.

So, in my opinion, Newcomer, the water quality at Lake Martin is exceptional, compared to most other southeastern lakes.
