They ARE making repairs to Thurlow Dam (the one below Martin and ahead of Yates in Tallassee) right now. As a result, the 'middle pond' has been lowered by about 5-6' until the repairs are complete. This has nothing to do with Martin Dam, except that they are not likely to release any more water than can be handled at Thurlow during the repair period..

As a marina operator, I receive all of the FERC notices. (FERC is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that has all gov't authority over the lake!) Alabama Power has reached an agreement with FERC to change the operating guideline to keep Lake Martin at full pool a month longer in the Summer and to begin the fill process a month earlier in the spring, starting in 2006. Currently under discussion with FERC is the idea of only taking the Lake down to 485' in the winter instead of 480', but that has not been decided. There is some opposition to this idea.
