Since you have read the regulations and have taught the Coast Guard course you know and must admit that the Marine Police are given a great deal of lattitude is dealing with a given situation. THERE ARE NO SPEED LIMITS. It is obvious that the general public want more strict enforcement because they do not feel the lakes are safe--that personal property and safety are at risk.

The Marine Police are understaffed, underpowered, and may not get the court support they need to keep things under control. They do the best that they can do--this law will help eliminate the source of some of the problems, and make their job easier and more effective.

Your argument that current laws are adequate just doesn't hold up. I've noticed that none of the anti-law group will talk about safety or speed. All of a sudden it's 'wake' that's the problem. The real underlying issue is excess speed and the safety concerns of boats traveling at 70-100 mph in the same vicinity as families in boats traveling at 10-30. Ever noticed that Interstate highways have a minimum speed of 45 mph, and they require everyone to travel in lanes and in the same direction--that's for safety--and cars have brakes. Families should not have to risk their lives on the lake because the state government failed to do its part to require safe boating practices.

As for your personal attack on me about drinking and boating--I'll just consider the source and forget it. The DUI laws are one of the very few laws that give specific guidelines to the Maring Police--it's about their only tool of enforcement--if they could only catch up to the fast boats.

It's all about the operator--that's the answer to the problem.
