I don’t understand it any better than you do, but yes, the dry spring was predicted. Logan Martin asked to just drop three feet this winter because of what was predicted and were granted permission. Smith Lake’s winter level is 14 feet down and they have been down less than 8 feet every day in 2007. Lake Harris (Wedowee), above us on the Tallapoosa, has a start to fill date of April 1 on their license and because of the predicted dry spring, started coming up several weeks early and are ahead of their fill schedule at this time. As I have stated in earlier posts, the Harris early filling hurt our lake some. I should say in my opinion it hurt because a few people had stated that it did not matter. Everybody has a right to their opinion. Common sense tells me Alabama Power wishes it had asked for an alteration on our lake schedule too, but for whatever reason, it did not happen.
