My father had a boat down in Orange Beach and we never had any issues with retrieving and danforth anchor. It's much easier in saltwater because most times it is a sandy bottom. We would always idle up on the anchor and actually run over the anchor line to where it was on the centerline of the boat and angled back under the boat. We would pull all the slack out of the line as we moved forward and then tie the line off on the bow cleat and the anchor would just pop right out. I did it the same way on Lake Lanier with my center console and never lost an anchor. Are you using at least six foot of anchor chain? In 20 years of boating I have not even come close to losing an anchor.
